Live Edge Table - Custom Slab Edge
Live Edge Table - Live Edge in Solid Wood
A live edge table (also called a log dining table or live edge table) has a tabletop where the natural edge of the wood remains visible - untreated, organic, unique. At Industrial Home, our live edge dining tables are solid oak or walnut, fully customizable via our 3D configurator. Solid wood is the material of the slow living movement: sustainable, handcrafted and timeless — the opposite of fast furniture.
What is a Live Edge Table?
"Live edge" literally means "living edge" - the tabletop retains the natural, irregular edge of the tree. No straight saw line, but the organic curve of how the tree grew. The bark is removed, but the shape remains.
In the Netherlands, we also call this a live edge dining table or log table. The term "live edge" is the English variant that is more commonly used by designers and interior bloggers.
At Industrial Home, we make our live edge tables from solid oak or walnut, custom-milled. This means you get the organic look of a live edge table, but with the freedom to determine the length, width, and finish yourself - something that is not always possible with a real log.
Live Edge Oak vs Live Edge Walnut
Live Edge Oak Table
Oak has a broad, clear grain that beautifully complements the organic edge. Warm honey color in natural finish, also available in white oiled and black. The most affordable choice in solid wood for a live edge table.
Live Edge Walnut Table
Walnut has a finer grain and a richer, darker color. A live edge walnut table is a luxurious, special choice that elevates almost any interior. Slightly more expensive than oak, but the appearance is unique.
Live Edge Table Size Chart
The live edge runs along the long sides of the tabletop. For seating comfort, allow a minimum of 60 cm per person along the long sides.
| Length | Width | People | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| 140 - 160 cm | 80 - 90 cm | 4 p | Family - apartment |
| 180 cm | 90 cm | 6 p | Standard family |

| 220 - 260 cm | 95 - 110 cm | 8 - 10 p | Open kitchen / large space |
Live Edge Table in your Interior
A live edge table is a statement - it deserves a space that can handle it:
- Industrial - black steel legs, concrete look floor, metal accents
- Boho / natural - rattan chairs, jute rug, plants
- Modern rural - light walls, wooden floor, linen curtains
- Loft style - high ceilings, large windows, space for the organic silhouette
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a live edge table the same as a log table?
Pretty much - "live edge" is the English term, "boomstamtafel" or "boomstamrand tafel" is the Dutch variant. In both cases, it refers to a tabletop with an organic, untreated edge that follows the natural shape of the wood.
How do I maintain a live edge table?
Oil 1-2 times a year with furniture or beeswax oil. Wipe with a dry cloth or slightly damp cloth. The organic edge requires a little more attention than a polished edge - oil all around, including in the irregularities.
Can I determine the dimensions myself?
Yes - via the 3D configurator you choose the length, width and thickness yourself. The live edge runs along the pebble shape or log shape of the top.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a live edge table?
A live edge table retains the original outer edge of the tree trunk — the 'live edge'. This gives the tabletop a unique, organic contour that varies per tree.
What wood is used?
Popular: oak (strong, widely available), walnut (dark, luxurious), acacia (speckled, cheaper). Oak is most available in the Netherlands.
Are holes or knots normal?
Yes — knots, resin canals, and small holes are characteristic of live edge. They are filled with epoxy resin for a smooth surface.
How big are live edge tables?
From 160 cm to 300 cm long, 70-120 cm wide. Width varies per piece — exact upon request.
How do I maintain a live edge table?
Oil 1-2 times a year. The rough edge absorbs more oil than the smooth surface — extra attention during treatment.
Can a live edge table shrink?
Slightly — all solid wood tables can shrink with changes in humidity. We only work with fully dried wood to minimize this.
