What is HPL?
High Pressure Laminate is a composite material consisting of multiple layers of kraft paper (impregnated with phenolic resin) with a top layer of decorative paper, pressed together under extreme pressure (over 70 bar) and high temperature (over 150°C). The result is an extremely hard, dense, and durable surface that goes far beyond ordinary laminate.
HPL is not the same as cheap furniture laminate or foil. It is a stable, high-end industrial material also used in kitchens, laboratories, hospitals, and aircraft interiors due to its extreme durability.
Advantages of an HPL Dining Table
Extremely scratch-resistant
HPL scores high on the Brinell hardness test — significantly higher than lacquered wood or painted MDF. Cutlery, keys, children's toys — HPL can handle it all. Ideal for families with children or for dining tables that are used intensively.
Stain-resistant
The closed, non-porous surface of HPL does not absorb liquids. Wine, coffee, sauce — wipe it away with a damp cloth. HPL is resistant to most household liquids and food stains.
Heat-resistant
HPL can withstand heat up to approximately 150°C with direct contact. A hot pan or dish is not a problem. When in doubt, always use a coaster.
More than 1000 colours and decors
This is perhaps the biggest advantage of HPL: the freedom of choice. Available in almost every imaginable colour and in decors that imitate other materials:
- Wood decors — oak look, walnut look, bamboo look. From a meter away, almost indistinguishable from real wood.
- Concrete look — steel grey, rough concrete, light concrete. The industrial aesthetic without the weight.
- Solid colour matt — matt black, matt white, matt grey, matt green, terracotta, sage green.
- Marble look — white marble, Carrara look, Calacatta. Luxurious appearance without the maintenance problems of real marble.

Bases for an HPL Dining Table
The base determines the character of the table. Popular combinations with HPL:
- Oak wooden legs — adds warmth to a sleek HPL top. The most popular combination, especially with concrete look or matt black.
- Matt black steel frame — completely modern or industrial look. Popular with dark HPL decors.
- Walnut wooden legs — luxurious, warm, premium look.
- / gold steel — luxurious accent, perfect with white or beige HPL.
- White powder-coated steel — light and fresh, ideal with light HPL decors.
Through the 3D configurator, you can immediately see what each combination looks like.
Maintenance of an HPL Dining Table
- Wipe with a slightly damp cloth — that's all HPL needs.
- Stubborn stains: mild detergent on a soft cloth, then wipe dry.
- No abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals — they can damage the top layer.
- No oil, lacquer, or periodic treatment needed — HPL maintains itself.

Is HPL the same as Formica?
Formica is a brand of HPL — like Kleenex for tissues. HPL is the generic category that includes dozens of brands (Formica, Trespa, Fundermax, Egger). At Industrial Home, we use HPL from reputable manufacturers.
Is HPL scratch-resistant?
Yes — HPL is extremely scratch-resistant, significantly harder than lacquered MDF or solid wood. Cutlery, keys, and daily use leave almost no marks.
Can an HPL dining table be used outdoors?
Standard HPL is an indoor material. There is exterior-grade HPL for outdoor use, but our dining tables are for indoor use.
Does HPL yellow in light?
Quality HPL is lightfast and yellows minimally with normal indoor use. At Industrial Home, we only use HPL from manufacturers with demonstrable lightfastness.
Can I repair a deep scratch?
HPL is not thermally repairable like Fenix. Shallow scratches can sometimes be concealed with furniture wax in the correct color. Deep scratches are practically irreparable — but with normal use, this is rarely necessary.
What is the delivery time for an HPL dining table?
Typically 3 to 5 weeks after order confirmation. After placing your order, you will receive a confirmation with the expected delivery date.
Is the table delivered assembled?
Yes. Our delivery personnel will assemble the table immediately upon delivery and place it in the desired location. No hassle with flat-pack furniture.
How much warranty do I get on an HPL dining table?
All Industrial Home tables come with a manufacturer's warranty. Do you have a specific question about the warranty conditions? Contact us — we are happy to help.
