Live Edge Table — Solid Oak Made to Measure
Live Edge Table — Solid Oak Made to Measure
A live edge table literally brings nature to your table. The organic tabletop follows the natural line of the tree trunk – no two tables are alike. At Industrial Home, you can fully customize your live edge dining table using our 3D configurator: choose the size, finish, and type of legs. Available in solid oak and walnut, in dozens of combinations.
What is a live edge table?
A live edge dining table has a tabletop with an organic, irregular edge – based on the natural shape of a tree trunk. Unlike a rectangular or round dining table, the live edge table has a unique silhouette: wider on one side, narrower on the other, with a flowing curve along the side. That makes each table unique.
At Industrial Home, the live edge table is not a solid piece of wood from a single tree trunk, but a custom-milled solid oak or walnut tabletop in the characteristic live edge shape. This means you have complete freedom in dimensions, but without the capriciousness and high price of a true tree trunk. The result: the organic look you desire, with the quality and size assurance you can expect.
Materials — Oak or Walnut?
Solid Oak Live Edge Table
Oak is a popular wood type for live edge dining tables. The wood has a warm, timeless color and a clear grain that is beautifully highlighted by the organic shape. Oak is hard, durable, and with proper maintenance, will last for generations. Available in multiple finishes:
- Natural oiled - warm honey color, the most authentic look
- White oiled - light and Scandinavian, less visible grain
- natural oak - darker, richer in color, more industrial character
- Black oiled - deep black solid oak, maximum contrast
Solid Walnut Live Edge Table
Walnut is darker than oak and has a finer, more elegant grain. A walnut live edge table exudes luxury and refinement. Walnut is slightly softer than oak but still exceptionally durable for daily use. The combination of organic shape and the rich color of walnut creates a special tabletop that stands out in any interior.
Legs for your Live Edge Table
The legs complete the character of the table. Using our 3D configurator, you can see live how the combination looks:
- Black steel rectangular legs - sleek, industrial, timeless
- Stainless steel legs - modern, light-reflecting, less heavy in appearance
- Oak wooden legs - entirely in wood, warm and Scandinavian
- Hairpin legs - retro industrial, airy design
- Trapezium / X-legs - striking base, feels robust and stable
Size Chart — How Many People Fit at a Live Edge Table?
A live edge table is wider on one side and narrower on the other. On average, allow 60 cm per person. The table below provides a guideline based on the length of the tabletop:
| Tabletop length | Width (middle) | Number of people | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 140 - 160 cm | 80 - 90 cm | 4 people | Small family, apartment |
| 160 - 180 cm | 85 - 95 cm | 4 - 6 people | Family, everyday dining table |

Note: there is usually less space on the narrower side of the live edge shape. Calculate with a minimum seating width of 55 cm per chair on the sides.
Maintenance of your Live Edge Dining Table
Solid wood lives with its surroundings. That's the beauty of it – but it also requires a little attention:
- Daily maintenance - wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
- Oiling - oiled oak and walnut require a coat of furniture or wood oil 1 to 2 times a year. This keeps the wood nourished and protected.
- Stains - blot immediately, do not rub. Water leaves round stains if left for a long time - always use a coaster.
- Protection - use a foldable tablecloth or placemats for intensive use. Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
Live Edge Table in your Interior
The live edge dining table is more versatile than you might think. Its organic shape combines effortlessly with:
- Industrial interior - black steel legs, concrete look floor, dark wood
- Japandi style - light oak, minimalist chairs, soothing colors
- Rural modern - walnut top, adobe walls, linen curtains
- Luxury design - thicker tabletop, stainless steel legs, combination with designer dining chairs
Through the 3D dining table configurator, you can immediately see what your combination will look like - including color, size, and leg shape. This way, you don't have to leave anything to the imagination.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a live edge table?
A live edge table (also called a slab table) is made from a cross-section of a tree trunk where the natural edge of the tree is preserved. Each table is unique due to its distinctive grain, knots, and organic edge.
What types of wood are used for live edge tables?
Popular choices include oak (most durable), walnut (luxurious, dark), acacia (cheaper, beautifully mottled grain) and elm (rare, dramatic grain). Oak is the most readily available in the Netherlands.
How do I maintain a live edge table?
Treat 2x a year with wood beeswax or clear wood oil. Wipe up liquids immediately. The live edge can splinter — lightly sand and re-treat. Avoid prolonged contact with water.
Can a live edge table shrink or warp?
All solid wood tables can slightly shrink or expand due to changes in humidity and temperature. Live edge tables are kiln-dried before processing to minimize this. Avoid extreme changes in humidity.
How large are live edge tables available?
From 160 cm (2-4 people) to 300 cm (10-12 people). The width varies per piece — typically 80-120 cm. Exact dimensions per table available upon request.
What does a live edge table cost on average?
Depending on wood type and dimensions: €800-€3,500 at Industrial Home. Oak is cheaper than walnut; larger sizes cost more due to the scarcity of suitable tree trunks.
