Why ceramic for a dining table?

Ceramic tabletops have become one of the most popular materials for modern dining tables over the last decade. The reasons are clear:

  • Exceptional hardness — cutlery, keys, sharp objects: ceramic laughs at them. A metal knife leaves no mark.
  • Completely heat-resistant — a pot straight from the hob, a dish from the oven: absolutely no problem. This creates freedom at the table.
  • Stain-resistant — the completely closed surface absorbs nothing. Red wine, coffee, oil — everything wipes away easily.
  • Timeless appearance — a ceramic top looks the same after ten years as it did on the first day. No patina, no discolouration, no wear.

Custom Ceramic Tabletop — How does it work?

Step 1: Choose size and colour

Through our configurator or in personal contact, you specify your desired size (length, width, thickness). Popular thicknesses for ceramic tops are 6 mm, 12 mm, and 20 mm. Then you choose the look: marble look (Calacatta, Statuario, Grigio), concrete look, or solid colour.

Step 2: Choose base

The base determines the character. You choose between oak legs (warm), matte black steel frames (industrial-modern), gold-coloured steel (luxurious with marble look), or walnut legs (premium). Every combination is available custom-made.

Step 3: Production and Delivery

After order confirmation, production begins. The delivery time is usually 3 to 4 weeks. We deliver free of charge and including setup in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. The delivery personnel will set up the table in the desired location — you don't have to lift or assemble anything yourself.

Ceramic Marble Look: Calacatta, Statuario & Grigio

Calacatta Look

Calacatta marble is the most luxurious Italian white marble — steel-white background with warm golden and light grey veins. In the ceramic version, this combines the beauty of Calacatta with the robustness of ceramic. Combined with gold-coloured or natural steel legs, it's a first-class interior statement.

Statuario Look

Statuario marble is slightly cooler in tone than Calacatta — the background is whiter, the veins are greyer and more dramatic. This results in a sleeker, more modern look. Perfect for minimalist interiors that need a luxurious accent.

Grigio Lappato (Grey Marble Look)

Grey marble look ceramic has a more subdued luxury. The grey background with lighter veins is elegant and subtle. Combine it with a matte black or dark grey metal base for a completely harmonious dark interior.

Ceramic Concrete Look: Industrial and Timeless

Light Concrete Look

Light grey concrete look creates the atmosphere of a modern studio or loft. Neutral, versatile, combinable with any chair and any base. Particularly popular in combination with oak legs — the warmth of the wood balances the coolness of the concrete grey.

Dark Concrete Look / Anthracite

Dark concrete look ceramic is the most industrial tabletop. Deep grey to anthracite, with a subtle structure reminiscent of poured concrete. On a matte black steel frame, it's a pure industrial statement.

Buying Guide: Choosing the Right Dining Table

Number of People Minimum Length Recommended Length
4 people 140 cm 160 cm
6 people 180 cm 200 cm
8 people 220 cm 240 cm
10 people 260 cm 280-300 cm
  • Space around the table: allow for at least 90 cm of free movement space on all sides — 75 cm is the absolute minimum.
  • Standard table height: 75-78 cm. Combine with chairs with a seat height of 43-47 cm.
  • Width: at least 80 cm for comfortable seating opposite each other, 90-100 cm is ideal.
  • Per person: allow for 60-70 cm of table length per person — 70 cm provides elbow room.
Is a ceramic dining table heavy?

Yes — ceramic is a heavy material. A ceramic tabletop of 180 x 90 cm typically weighs 50-80 kg. This requires a stable base and careful delivery. We deliver including setup, so you don't have to lift anything yourself.

Can ceramic crack or break?

Ceramic is extremely hard, but with a hard, targeted blow to the edge or corner (for example, a heavy object falling), it can crack. In normal daily use, this is almost impossible. Hardness is one of ceramic's greatest qualities.

Is ceramic suitable for everyday use?

Ceramic is the most low-maintenance tabletop for everyday use. No placemats needed, no caution with wet glasses or hot pots. A wipe with a damp cloth is all it takes.

Which ceramic look is most popular?

Calacatta marble look and light concrete look are the popular options at Industrial Home. Calacatta for those who want luxury and brightness; concrete look for those who prefer industrial and neutral.

Can I combine a ceramic dining table with a wooden base?

Yes — and this is one of the most popular combinations. The contrast between the sleek ceramic top and the warm wooden base gives the table a beautiful tension. Oak legs with concrete look or Calacatta are particularly popular.

What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain?

Ceramic is harder and more scratch-resistant than porcelain and is fired at higher temperatures. Ceramic is always used for tabletops — it is the better material for this purpose.

How long is the delivery time for a ceramic dining table?

Usually 3 to 4 weeks after order confirmation. After ordering, you will receive a confirmation with the estimated delivery date.

Is the table delivered assembled?

Yes. Our delivery personnel assemble the table directly upon delivery and place it in the desired location. You don't have to lift or assemble anything yourself — especially convenient with a heavy ceramic top.

How much warranty do I get on a ceramic dining table?

All tables from Industrial Home come with a manufacturer's warranty. Do you have a specific question about the warranty conditions? Please contact us — we are happy to help.
