Bookcase – Stylish & Custom-made
Bookshelf — Storage with Style and Character
A bookshelf is more than just storage for books—it's a statement piece in your interior. At Industrial Home, you'll find bookshelves with character: made from solid wood, robust metal, or a striking combination of both. Whether you choose an open model, a version with doors, or a modular custom system—we have the solution that fits your space and style. Perfectly suited to the current trends of Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, and Slow Living that define contemporary living.
Types of Bookshelves
Open Bookshelf
An open bookshelf is the most classic choice. Your books, plants, decorations, and personal items are directly visible and easily accessible. Open models give a room an airy feel and let your collection speak for itself. They are ideal in the living room, study, or bedroom.
Bookshelf with Doors
Do you want to keep the contents of your shelf less visible? Then opt for a bookshelf with doors. Glass doors provide a neat look while still allowing the contents to be seen; wooden doors offer maximum concealment. Practical for office environments or if you desire a more tidy interior.
Low Bookshelf
A low bookshelf (height up to ±100 cm) also works great as a chest of drawers or sideboard. You can place a lamp, an art object, or a plant on top while utilizing the storage space below. Perfect for the hallway, bedroom, or living room.
Tall Bookshelf
A tall bookshelf utilizes the full height of your room, creating impressive walls full of character. Models from 180–220 cm become a focal point in any room. Combine it with a library ladder for a true library vibe.
Modular Bookshelf
With a modular bookshelf, you build exactly what you need. Start with a basic element and add more modules as desired—side by side, one above the other, or in an L-shape. Ideal if you expect your living space or needs to change.
Materials
Wooden Bookshelf — Oak & Mango Wood
Wood is the popular material for a bookshelf. Oak is durable, timeless, and available in light or natural finishes. Mango wood has a warm, characteristic grain and is a more sustainable choice as it comes from fruit trees that have already reached maturity. Both wood types combine excellently with metal frames.
HPL & Coated Panel Material
For a cleaner, contemporary interior, HPL (High Pressure Laminate) offers a smooth, easy-to-maintain surface in countless colors. Resistant to scratches and moisture—ideal for kitchens or offices.
Black Metal Frame
A frame made of black powder-coated steel gives the bookshelf an industrial character. The frame is sturdy, lightweight, and combines beautifully with wooden shelves. This is the distinctive look of the Industrial style that we love at Industrial Home.
Styles
Industrial Bookshelf
Robust, raw, and striking. Combinations of mango wood or oak with black metal. Visible screws, reclaimed wood with patina—this is the style that tells its own story. Perfectly suits concrete floors, brick walls, and vintage accessories.
Scandinavian Bookshelf
Light oak, white or natural finishes, clean lines, and functional design. The Scandinavian bookshelf fits into any modern home. Less is more—but the quality is all the more convincing.
Rural Bookshelf
Warm wood tones, sometimes with a vintage or shabby chic finish. A rural bookshelf fits into a country house style or a classic interior. Think rustic look, turned legs, and soft white paint.
Dimensions — What Size Fits?
When choosing your bookshelf, accurate measurements are crucial. Below is an overview of common dimensions:
| Type | Width | Height | Material |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low open bookshelf | 60–120 cm | 80–100 cm | Oak / Mango wood |
| Mid-height bookshelf | 80–160 cm | 120–150 cm | Oak / HPL |

| Bookshelf with doors | 80–160 cm | 180–210 cm | Oak / HPL |

Combine Bookshelf with Other Furniture
A bookshelf rarely stands alone. Combine it with a sideboard for a complete, cohesive living room wall. Or opt for a wall cabinet that takes up the full width of your wall for a built-in look. Stick to the same wood type or material color for a stylish ensemble.
A popular combination is a tall open bookshelf next to a low cabinet with doors—this way you have both display space and concealed storage on one wall. Add a beautiful floor lamp and you have a full-fledged reading corner.

Buying Guide: choosing the right dresser
- Standard height: 75-90 cm — practical as a side table and for a mirror above it. Lower (60-70 cm) provides a calmer effect in the room.
- Depth: 35-45 cm is standard. Deeper than 45 cm is difficult to fit in a narrow hallway or small bedroom.
- Width vs. wall space: leave at least 40 cm free on both sides for visual breathing room. A dresser that fills the entire wall appears heavier.
- Mirror above the dresser: bottom edge of the mirror approx. 10-15 cm above the top. Mirror width = 50-75% of the dresser width for good proportions.
- Storage space: combine drawers (for small items) with doors (for larger storage). At least 2 drawers for daily use.
What size bookshelf should I choose?
First, measure the available space: width, height, and depth. A standard bookshelf is 25–40 cm deep. For books, 25–30 cm is more than sufficient; for decoration or larger objects, choose 35–40 cm deep. In terms of width, models from 80–120 cm are the most flexible. Do you want a wall-to-wall setup? Then take a look at modular or custom options from 180–240 cm wide.
Open bookshelf or bookshelf with doors—which is better?
That depends on your preferences. An open bookshelf is accessible, airy, and visually appealing if you have beautiful books or decorative items. A bookshelf with doors keeps dust away and hides less aesthetically pleasing items. Many people opt for a combination: the upper compartments open for display, the lower compartments with doors for storage.
How do I care for a wooden bookshelf?
Caring for a solid wood (oak or mango wood) bookshelf is very simple. Dust it regularly with a dry cloth. Never use too much water. Treat the wood once a year with furniture oil or beeswax to nourish and protect it. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent discoloration. Lacquered or HPL surfaces are even easier to maintain: a damp cloth is sufficient.
Can I order a custom bookshelf?
Yes, at Industrial Home, custom-made furniture is one of our specialties. Using our 3D configurator, you can assemble dimensions, materials, color, and layout yourself. What is characteristic of an industrial bookshelf?
An industrial bookshelf combines robust materials: solid wood (often mango wood or reclaimed wood) with a black powder-coated steel frame. The finish is distinctive and authentic—visible structural elements, rough wood texture, and dark metal colors are typical features. This style fits perfectly in lofts, urban apartments, and modern homes with concrete or stone walls.
