Sideboard — Stylish Custom Storage | Industrial Home
Sideboard — Timeless Storage with Character
A sideboard is more than just a storage unit. It's a focal point, a character piece that defines the ambiance of your living room or dining room. At Industrial Home, you'll find sideboards made from timeless materials such as mango wood, solid oak, and high-quality HPL, finished with hand-forged metal or sleek steel legs. Each piece tells a story — and you determine that story.
What sets Industrial Home apart: everything is custom-made. Do you want a different size, a different color, or a completely different design? Submit your own sketch, and we'll create it for you. From a compact model for a smaller living room to an imposing 240 cm wide sideboard for a large living room — anything is possible.
Types of Sideboards — Which Type Suits You?
Sideboards come in many forms. The choice depends on your interior, your storage needs, and the available space.
Low sideboard
A low sideboard has a height of approximately 60-80 cm. It fits perfectly under a window or against a wall without pipes. Above the sideboard, there is space for a wall mirror, artwork, or wall lamp. A low model gives the room a calm, open look and is ideal for smaller spaces or bedrooms.
Tall sideboard
A tall sideboard (100-130 cm) offers more storage capacity and impressively fills an empty wall. With doors, drawers, and open compartments, you can store items both functionally and decoratively. Ideal for large living rooms or as a dining room buffet.
Open vs. closed sideboard
An open sideboard provides an airy look and showcases your decorations. A closed model with doors keeps clutter out of sight. Many of our models combine both: drawers and doors at the bottom, open compartments at the top.
Sideboard on legs
A sideboard on metal legs has an industrial, modern character. The space beneath the furniture makes it visually lighter and easier to vacuum. Combine it with sleek wooden doors for a warm-industrial interior.
Materials — Solid, Honest and Durable
At Industrial Home, we deliberately choose materials that last. No chipboard or cheap foil, but real raw materials.
- Mango wood: Warm, rich in grain, with a unique pattern per plank. Mango wood is a sustainable choice: it is a byproduct of mango production and does not require special felling. Our mango sideboards have a warm, rustic appearance that perfectly combines with dark steel.
- Solid oak: Strong, timeless, and value-retaining. Oak has a fine, sleek grain and suits both modern and classic interiors. Available in natural, stained grey, or black.
- HPL (High-Pressure Laminate): A strong composite material that is scratch-resistant and easy to maintain. Available in dozens of colors and wood decors. Ideal if you want a specific color that solid wood does not offer.
- Black metal frame: Structured powder-coated black steel gives each sideboard a tough, industrial touch. Timeless and super strong.
Styles — Industrial, Scandinavian or Rural
A sideboard must match the rest of your interior. We make sideboards in three main styles, each with its own material combinations and finishes.
Industrial sideboard
Dark mango wood or black stained oak, combined with black steel frames and hand-forged fittings. Robust, tough, with character. Each piece is unique due to the wood grain and handmade finish.
Scandinavian sideboard
Light oak or natural mango wood, clean lines, minimalist fittings or no fittings. The Scandinavian style exudes tranquility and functionality. Works well in light, modern interiors.
Rural sideboard
Warm white or natural wood, sometimes with gold-colored or brass fittings. A rural sideboard gives your living room or dining room a cozy, warm feeling. Combines well with linen curtains and a pine floor.

Combine with a Wall Mirror
A sideboard with a wall mirror above it is a classic. The mirror optically enlarges the space and creates a cohesive furniture ensemble. We recommend a mirror of the same width as the sideboard, or slightly narrower for a playful effect. Choose a mirror with a black steel frame for an industrial sideboard, or a round mirror for a modern-organic overall look.
Preferably place the sideboard on a wall opposite a window so that daylight is reflected and the space feels larger.
Customization & Own Design
Industrial Home makes everything custom-made. Do you need a specific size due to a sloped ceiling, a niche, or another spatial challenge? No problem. Submit your own design or sketch, and our furniture makers will get to work. This way, you get a sideboard that perfectly fits your interior and your space.
Frequently Asked Questions about Sideboards
Which width should I choose for my sideboard?
The most common width is 120-160 cm. This offers enough storage space without dominating. In a larger living room or dining room, a model of 160-240 cm fits well. Always measure the wall and allow for 20-30 cm of free space on both sides.
What is the difference between a dressoir and a sideboard?
In practice, the terms are used interchangeably. A 'dressoir' is traditionally a lower piece of furniture with doors and drawers, intended for the dining room or living room. A sideboard is a similar piece of furniture but often has a more modern look and slightly larger dimensions. At Industrial Home, both fall under our sideboard collection.
Can I order a custom-made sideboard?
Yes, absolutely. Industrial Home custom-makes all furniture. You can determine the dimensions, material, color, and finish yourself. Send a sketch or specifications via our contact form, and we'll be happy to help you.
Which material is the most low-maintenance?
HPL and lacquered wood are the easiest to clean. Solid wood requires a little more care: protect it from water and grease with beeswax or furniture oil, and regularly turn the furniture a quarter turn so that the wood dries evenly. Mango wood is naturally quite robust.
How long does delivery of a custom-made sideboard take?
The delivery time for custom work is typically 4-8 weeks, depending on the model and current workload. We will always inform you in advance about the expected delivery date.
