Extension Mechanisms: Butterfly vs. Sliding

There are two popular mechanisms for extendable dining tables, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:

Butterfly Extension System

With a butterfly leaf, the extension panel is hidden under the tabletop and elegantly folds out when you slide the two halves apart. This is the most user-friendly option: no loose panels to store, no hassle. In one smooth motion, your table is extended. The butterfly leaf is ideal if you extend it regularly and don't want to search through cupboards every time.

Sliding Extension with Loose Extension Leaves

With this system, you slide the two table halves apart and insert one or more loose extension leaves. This requires a bit more handling but offers more flexibility in the amount of extension: with one leaf, you enlarge the table by 45 or 50 cm; with two leaves, by 90 or 100 cm. Perfect if you occasionally host very large gatherings.
