Extension Mechanisms: Butterfly vs. Slide

There are two popular mechanisms for extendable dining tables, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:

Butterfly Extension System

With a butterfly leaf, the extension panel is hidden under the tabletop and elegantly folds out when you pull the two halves apart. This is the most user-friendly option: no loose panels to store, no hassle. In one smooth motion, you've extended the table. The butterfly leaf is ideal if you extend the table regularly and don't want to search through cupboards every time.

Slide Extension with Loose Extension Leaves

With this system, you pull the two table halves apart and insert one or more loose extension leaves. This requires a few more steps but offers more flexibility in the amount of extension: with one leaf, you enlarge the table by 45 or 50 cm; with two leaves, by 90 or 100 cm. Perfect if you sometimes host very large gatherings.
