Side Table — Stylish & Functional in Every Room

✔ Free shipping from €50 ✔ Customization possible ✔ Submit your own design ✔ 30-day returns

A side table is more than a small table at the side of the sofa. It is a versatile piece of furniture that proves its worth in every room — in the hallway as a landing spot for keys and mail, in the living room next to the sofa as a convenient surface, in the bedroom as a stylish nightstand, or in the study as an extra workspace. The strength of a good side table lies in its versatility: compact enough not to dominate, but present enough to complete the interior.

At Industrial Home, you'll find side tables in solid mango wood, oak, walnut, and steel — each with character and quality. Every piece of furniture is handmade and has its own unique grain and finish. And for those who want something special: Industrial Home makes everything to measure. Do you have a specific width, a different wood type, or your own design? Send it in, and our furniture makers will create it for you.

Side Table in the Hallway — Functional Entrance

The hallway is the first and last place you see when you're at home. A side table in the hallway is the perfect spot for keys, mail, your wallet, and other daily essentials. Choose a narrow side table (25-35 cm deep) to keep the passage clear, even in a smaller hallway. A side table on slender metal legs works particularly well in a narrow entrance: the floor is visible underneath, which makes the hallway appear more spacious.

Add a matching mirror above the side table for a complete entrance. A mirror makes the hallway larger, brighter, and more functional — ideal for a final glance before you leave the house. Combine it with a hook panel or coat rack on the wall next to it for a truly well-thought-out hallway arrangement.

A side table with one or two small drawers is extra handy in the hallway: your keys are no longer loose on the top but neatly stored away in the drawer, while this side table not only looks stylish but is also practical in any room, keeping the surface free for a vase or decorative object.

Side Table in the Living Room — Next to the Sofa

In the living room, a side table next to the sofa or armchair functions as a convenient surface for your coffee, remote control, book, or phone. Unlike a large coffee table, a side table is placed in a logical spot at the side of the seating area — easily accessible without having to reach far, and without obstructing movement.

Choose a height that matches the armrest height of your sofa (typically 55-65 cm) for optimal use. A slightly higher side table (65-70 cm) works well next to a taller armchair or as a lamp table. A mango wood side table on black steel legs is our most popular combination for the living room — warm, sturdy, and timeless.

A side table in the living room can also serve as a plant table: place a large houseplant in a beautiful pot on a robust side table for a lively green corner. Mango wood and oak are very suitable for this as they are resistant to some moisture. Optionally, place a coaster or saucer under the pot for extra protection.

Side Table in the Bedroom — As a Nightstand

In the bedroom, a side table works excellently as a nightstand. Slimmer than a traditional nightstand, but large enough for a bedside lamp, phone, and a glass of water. Choose a height equal to the top of your mattress (50-65 cm). For a high bed or box spring, choose a taller side table (65-70 cm).

Combine two identical side tables on either side of the bed for a symmetrical, cohesive look — this is the most popular bedroom setup. You can also consciously vary: two different side tables in the same material but different heights give a playful, modern effect.

A side table with a drawer or a small lower compartment is practical as a nightstand: keep your book, earbuds, or medications neatly stored away. Choose a model without sharp corners if space is tight — your hips will thank you.

Types of Side Tables at Industrial Home

Side table with drawers

A side table with one or two drawers offers convenient extra storage space for small items. Ideal in the hallway for keys and mail, or next to the bed for your book and earbuds. Drawers can be fitted with push-to-open mechanisms for a handle-less, sleek design. We make drawers in all desired widths and depths.

Narrow side table

A narrow side table (15-30 cm deep) is the perfect solution for limited space. Suitable for a narrow hallway, a small living room, or as a divider between two seating areas. Despite its small footprint, it has a significant visual effect — especially in a sleek material like black steel or white lacquered wood.

Tall side table

A tall side table (70-90 cm) functions as a standing-height accent surface or as a decorative stand for a plant or artwork. It pairs well with a floor lamp in a reading nook, or as a display table for a special object. Also useful as a keyboard stand next to a piano or as a counter extension in the kitchen.

Side table as a book rest

A side table next to your favorite chair or armchair as a stacking spot for your reading material is a classic. Books, magazines, a reading lamp, and your coffee — everything within reach. Choose a model with a lower compartment or shelf for extra storage capacity.

Set of two side tables

Two identical side tables of different heights form a nesting set: they can be slid under each other for compact storage, or used separately when guests are over. Ideal in a small living room as an alternative to a large coffee table. At Industrial Home, nesting sets are also available fully customized.

Materials — Solid, Honest and Durable

  • Mango Wood: Warm, authentic, with a unique grain. No two side tables are exactly alike — each piece has its own pattern. Mango wood is a sustainable choice: the wood is harvested as a byproduct of mango cultivation, so no trees are specifically cut down. Combined with a black steel frame, it is the industrial classic of Industrial Home.
  • Solid Oak: Timeless, strong, and enduring. Oak has a fine, sleek grain that suits both modern and classic interiors. Available in natural, grey stained, and dark stained. An oak side table lasts for decades and becomes more beautiful with age.
  • Walnut: Dark, warm, and elegant. Walnut has a rich, warm color that combines excellently with gold or copper-colored fittings and light bedding or light floors. Luxurious appearance at a reasonable price.
  • Metal (steel/iron): A fully metal side table is extremely strong, low-maintenance, and has a distinct industrial character. Available in black powder-coated, white, or copper color. Ideal for a minimalist or industrial living room.
  • Marble: A marble tabletop on a steel or wooden leg gives a luxurious, modern look. Ideal for a stylish living room or entrance. Available in white, grey, and black marble. Marble is porous — always use a coaster for glasses and cups.
  • Combination wood/metal: The best-selling type at Industrial Home. A solid wood top on a black steel frame — warm and sturdy in one. The perfect balance between industry and nature.

Styles — Industrial, Scandinavian or Modern

Industrial side table

Dark mango wood or black stained oak on a black steel frame. Robust, sturdy, with character. Each piece is unique due to the wood grain and handmade finish. Combines well with concrete floors, brick walls, and leather sofas.

Scandinavian side table

Light oak or natural mango wood on thin brass or white steel legs. Sleek, airy, and timeless. The Scandinavian style exudes tranquility and functionality. Suits light interiors with plenty of white, grey, and natural wood.

Modern / minimalist side table

Marble top, sleek steel legs, clean lines. No ornamentation, no excess — just the essential form. A modern side table is a sculpture in the living room. Suits a contemporary interior with high ceilings and sleek furniture.

Frequently Asked Questions about Side Tables

Side table — what height?

The ideal height of a side table depends on its use. If it's an accent surface next to the sofa, choose the same height as the armrest (55-65 cm). As a nightstand, your mattress height is the determining factor (50-65 cm). For a hallway piece, choose a standing height (75-85 cm) so you don't have to bend down. When in doubt: measure the height of the furniture the side table will complement and use that as a reference.

Is a side table suitable for the hallway?

Absolutely. A side table in the hallway is an excellent choice. Opt for a narrow model (20-30 cm deep) to keep the walkway clear. Combine it with a mirror above and a coat rack or hook panel next to it for a complete, functional entrance. A side table with a drawer is extra handy for keys and mail.

What is the difference between a side table and an accent table?

In common parlance, both terms are often used interchangeably. Technically, a side table is somewhat larger and wider, with a rectangular top and a formal appearance — originally intended as a table next to a dresser or desk. An accent table is smaller, sometimes round, and more often placed next to a chair or armchair. In practice, their functions largely overlap. At Industrial Home, we offer both variants.

Can I have a side table custom made?

Yes. Industrial Home makes all side tables to measure. Please provide your desired dimensions, material, color, and preferred layout (with or without drawer/shelf) via our contact form. We are happy to brainstorm with you and create a personalized, no-obligation proposal.

What materials are available for a side table?

We work with solid mango wood, solid oak, walnut, steel, marble, and combinations thereof. The most popular combination is a mango wood or oak top on a black steel frame. All materials are also available for custom work. We are happy to advise you on the best material choice for your situation and interior.
