A round coffee table is more than just a place for your coffee cup. It is the centrepiece of your living room — literally and figuratively. The soft, round shape creates an inviting atmosphere, fits seamlessly with corner sofas and L-shaped arrangements, and avoids sharp corners that you might bump into. At Industrial Home, we custom-make every round coffee table: from diameter to material, from leg design to finish. You decide, we build.

Why Choose a Round Coffee Table?

The round shape has one major advantage over a rectangular table: there are no corners. That sounds simple, but the implications are surprisingly significant. Children and pets can move around it freely and safely. Guests sit in a circle around the table, which facilitates conversation — no one is "at the head". The round table creates a fair, democratic table arrangement.

Moreover, a round coffee table is visually softer. In a living room with many straight lines — a sleek sofa, an angular dresser — a round table brings balance. In an organically decorated space, the round shape enhances the natural aesthetic. In short: the round coffee table fits into almost any interior.

Types of Round Coffee Tables

Round Coffee Table on Legs

The classic version: a round top on four (or three) legs. The legs largely determine the character of the table. Narrow, metal legs give an airy, modern feel. Thick, wooden legs in the same wood type as the top provide a robust, warm appearance. Splayed legs refer to Scandinavian design from the 1950s. At Industrial Home, you can fully customize the leg design of our round coffee table: choose from different materials, thicknesses, angles, and finishes for a unique end result.

Round Coffee Table with Central Pedestal Base

Instead of four separate legs, the top rests on a single central pedestal or column. This design provides maximum legroom around the table and looks sculptural. A pedestal base in matte black metal combined with a mango wood top is a popular combination that is both industrial and warm. With one thick wooden column, the table appears solid and organic.

Floating Round Coffee Table

A "floating" effect can be achieved with very slender legs or a continuous frame that makes the top appear to hover just above the floor. This design visually enlarges the space — ideal for smaller living rooms. Due to the transparency of the base, the eye focuses less on the table as a block and more on the top as a detail.

Round Coffee Table with Storage

Some versions have a lower shelf or grid, handy for magazines, books, or decorative baskets. At Industrial Home, a storage rack is always an option — we integrate it seamlessly into the design so that it doesn't look like an add-on.

Materials for a Round Coffee Table

Mango Wood

Mango wood is one of the most popular wood types for coffee tables. The wood has a warm, honey-brown colour with characteristic grains that vary per table — so each table is unique. Mango is relatively lightweight but sturdy enough for daily use. Its nature-inspired pattern perfectly matches organic and Japandi interiors.

Oak (Solid or Veneer)

Oak is a timeless choice. Solid oak is heavy, durable, and develops a beautiful patina over the years. Oak can be left natural, white-oiled (for a light Scandinavian look), or dark-stained. At Industrial Home, we always work with solid oak — no veneer or particle board.

Ceramic Top

A round coffee table with a ceramic top is virtually indestructible. Ceramic is resistant to heat, moisture, and scratches. The material comes in dozens of finishes: marble-look, concrete-look, plain white or black. The base is typically metal or wood, giving the overall piece a luxurious yet tough character.

Glass Top

A glass top makes the table optically lighter and fits modern, minimalist interiors. Tempered glass is safe and available in clear, smoked, or matte-satin finishes. The downside: fingerprints are quickly visible. The advantage: the floor is visible through the top, which creates a sense of spaciousness.

Which Diameter to Choose?

The diameter of your round coffee table determines how many people can comfortably sit around it and how much space there is on the top for decoration and use. The table below helps you choose the right size.

Diameter Use Ideal for
60 cm 1–2 people, side table-like Small living room, next to armchair
80 cm 2–3 people, compact coffee table Two-seater sofa, city apartment
90 cm 3–4 people, comfortable size Three-seater sofa, medium-sized living room
100 cm 4 people, generous top Corner sofa, larger living room
120 cm 4–6 people, central table Open living room, large seating area

Styles: Which Round Coffee Table Suits You?

Scandinavian / Japandi

Light wood types, slender legs, minimal details. Think of a white-oiled oak top on narrow, slightly splayed wooden legs. Calm, warm, timeless.

Industrial

Combination of wood and metal. A heavy mango wood top on a matte black metal cross-frame. Tough, honest material use, loft feel.

Organic / Live-edge

Free, asymmetrical shapes. A "pebble"-shaped top that isn't perfectly round. Wood types with striking grain or even a live-edge. Nature as inspiration.

Modern / Minimalist

Sleek geometry. A perfectly round ceramic top on a slender pedestal base. Or a glass top on a gold-coloured metal frame. Clean, contemporary, urban.

Combining with Sofa and Armchair

The most frequently asked question when choosing a round coffee table is: what size fits my sofa? As a rule of thumb: the coffee table should preferably be 2/3 of the length of your sofa. For a 270 cm sofa, you would therefore choose a coffee table of approximately 90 cm in diameter. For a corner sofa or U-shaped arrangement, choose something larger: 100–120 cm.

The height of the coffee table is also important. Ideally, the table should be at or just slightly lower than the seat height of your sofa (typically 40–45 cm). This way, you can easily grab your glass or place something down without bending over.

Combine a round coffee table with one or two smaller side tables for extra surface area. This looks dynamic and offers more flexibility in the arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions about Round Coffee Tables

What is a good diameter for a round coffee table in a small living room?

For small living rooms or studios, a diameter of 60–80 cm is ideal. Make sure there is at least 40–45 cm of walking space around the table. A table with a slender, transparent base (glass top or slim legs) makes the space optically larger.

Is mango wood suitable for a coffee table?

Absolutely. Mango wood is sturdy, relatively light, and has a beautiful natural grain. It is well resistant to normal use. Use a dry cloth for cleaning and oil the wood once or twice a year to nourish it. Avoid prolonged contact with moisture or extreme heat (e.g., hot cups without coasters).

Can I have a round coffee table custom-made?

Yes, that's exactly what Industrial Home does. You can fully customize the diameter, height, wood type, base type, and finish to your liking. You can also submit your own design or inspirational photo. Contact us for a personal consultation and quote.

How much space do I need around a round coffee table?

Allow at least 40 cm between the table and the sofa or armchair, and at least 90 cm as a walkway on the non-sofa side. For a table of 100 cm in diameter, you therefore need a total of at least 280 cm of available space in width (100 + 2×40 + extra for wall unit).

Which material is easiest to maintain?

Ceramic is the most low-maintenance: wipeable with a damp cloth, resistant to heat and scratches. Wood requires a little more attention (oil, coaster) but offers more warmth. Glass is easy to clean but quickly shows fingerprints.
