Danish Oval Dining Table — Custom Scandinavian Design

✓ Solid oak or alternative material ✓ Flattened ends — extra seating ✓ Fully customizable ✓ Free delivery & assembly NL, BE & DE

A Danish oval dining table — also called a Danish oval table — is the most versatile table shape in Scandinavian design. At first glance, the shape resembles a regular oval table — but the difference lies in the ends. Where a standard oval tapers to a point, the Danish oval shape ends in a flattened, almost rectangular line. A small detail, but a big effect: an extra chair can easily fit at each end. At Industrial Home, you can completely customize your Danish oval dining table — from material and color to the base — and see it live in 3D.

Danish Oval vs. Regular Oval

With a standard oval dining table, the ends taper to a point — beautiful, but the ends offer little practical seating space. With a Danish oval dining table, the ends are deliberately flattened:

Feature Regular oval Danish oval
Ends Pointed — little seating space Flattened — comfortable seating
Persons at 200 cm 6-7 persons 7-8 persons
Silhouette Flowing, classic Sleeker, more modern
Style fit Classic, rural Scandinavian, modern, Japandi

Materials

Solid oak

The classic choice for a Danish oval dining table. The warm grain of oak combines perfectly with the organic table shape. Available in natural (oiled or with Skylt lacquer) and white. Solid oak becomes more beautiful over the years and can be repaired if scratched.

Oak Hungarian point

For those who want something special: the herringbone pattern of Hungarian point oak gives the Danish oval table an extra dimension. The diagonal grain enhances the movement in the tabletop. Available in natural.

Walnut

Richer and darker than oak. The intricate grain of solid walnut makes each tabletop unique. Perfect choice for a warm, luxurious interior in combination with natural steel or copper legs.

Fenix

Matte, scratch-resistant and anti-fingerprint. Small scratches repair with heat. Ideal for families with children. Available in Nero Ingo (matte black), Bianco Kos (white), Grigio Bromo and more — also in Danish oval shape.

HPL

High Pressure Laminate — scratch-resistant, heat-resistant up to 180°C and available in dozens of decors: wood look, concrete look, matte black, sand, white. Good price-quality ratio for custom work.

Ceramic

Indestructible tabletop that is resistant to heat, stains, and scratches. Available in marble look, concrete look, and solid colors. For those who combine maximum ease of maintenance with a modern design.

Bases

The base determines the character of your table. All models are available in black, white and natural steel:

Matrix — frame

Rectangular steel frame. Sleek and industrial. Most chosen for Danish oval tables in Fenix or HPL.

Cone — conical legs

Tapered legs of solid oak or steel. Elegant and light — perfect for Scandinavian design.

Sol — central foot

One central leg provides maximum legroom all around. Ideal for the Danish oval shape for 4-6 persons.

Quattro — four legs

Four separate legs in an H-arrangement. Classic and stable, works in any interior.

Buying advice: choosing the right dining table

Number of people Minimum length Recommended length
4 people 140 cm 160 cm
6 people 180 cm 200 cm
8 people 220 cm 240 cm
10 people 260 cm 280-300 cm
  • Space around the table: allow at least 90 cm of free walking space on all sides — 75 cm is the absolute minimum.
  • Standard table height: 75-78 cm. Combine with chairs that have a seat height of 43-47 cm.
  • Width: at least 80 cm for comfortable seating opposite each other, 90-100 cm is ideal.
  • Per person: allow 60-70 cm of table length per person — 70 cm provides elbow room.
What makes the Danish oval shape so popular?

The combination of an organic, soft appearance with practical seating at the ends. No one sits "in the corner" — you sit comfortably even on the narrow sides. This makes the Danish oval table ideal if you sometimes have guests.

Which material is the easiest to maintain?

Ceramic and Fenix are the easiest: a damp cloth is sufficient, nothing soaks in. Oak and walnut are more beautiful but require annual oiling. HPL is in between.

Which chairs go well with a Danish oval dining table?

Due to the flattened ends, you can place ordinary straight chairs at the short sides. Choose chairs without armrests for maximum flexibility — with armrests, it's harder to fit an extra chair.

Which base suits a Japandi interior?

Cone legs in natural oak or black steel. These give the Danish oval table a light, elegant look that perfectly matches the Japandi principle: functional, pure, and warm.

Can I request color samples?

Yes. Please contact us via our contact form and indicate which materials you would like to see. We will send samples free of charge so you can compare them at home in your own light.

What is the delivery time?

Typically 4 to 6 weeks after order confirmation. After ordering, you will receive a confirmation with the expected delivery date.

What is the official name for this table shape?

There is no official name — which is why you'll find it referred to differently everywhere: Danish oval table, Danish oval dining table, Danish oval dining table or simply Danish design table. It always refers to the same shape: a dining table with flattened, wide ends in a Scandinavian style. At Industrial Home, we call it the Danish oval dining table.

Can I order a Danish oval table in black?

Yes, both the top and the base are available in black. For the top: Fenix Nero Ingo (matte black, scratch-resistant) or HPL matte black are the most popular choices. For the base: Matrix black or Quattro black. Using the 3D configurator you can see live what the combination looks like.

Is the Danish oval dining table also available as an extendable version?

Yes — and that's precisely one of its smartest features. Our extendable round table transforms into a Danish shape when extended: the ends automatically flatten, just like a fixed Danish oval table. So you get two tables in one: compact round for daily use, Danish oval when you have guests. View the extendable round table →

Is the table delivered assembled?

Yes. Our delivery personnel assemble the table directly upon delivery at the desired location. No flat-pack.

How much warranty do I get?

All Industrial Home tables come with a manufacturer's warranty. Contact us with any questions.
