Floating Bedside Table — Airy, Modern & Practical

✓ Solid wood ✓ Wall-mounted ✓ Custom made ✓ Free delivery NL, BE & DE

A floating bedside table is the most modern choice for the bedroom. By mounting the bedside table to the wall, it loses contact with the floor — it "floats." This gives the bedroom a lighter, more spacious feel. The floor remains clear, cleaning is easier, and the bed gains a more elegant, hotel-like appearance. At Industrial Home, we make floating bedside tables from solid oak, walnut, and other wood types, custom-sized and at the height you need.

Advantages of a Floating Bedside Table

Keeping the Floor Clear

The biggest advantage is immediately visible: the floor under the bedside table is empty. This makes the room visually larger — fewer "feet" on the floor means less clutter at the base, which makes the space appear more open. In small bedrooms, this effect is significant.

Easier Cleaning

Vacuuming and mopping are easier without legs or a plinth blocking the way. No more fumbling with a vacuum cleaner around cabinet legs — just easy access underneath.

Customizable Height

With a floating bedside table, you choose the mounting height yourself. This is a big advantage over freestanding bedside tables, which have a fixed height. Adjust the height precisely to your bed's mattress height, so everything is perfectly level.

Modern Hotel Feel

Floating bedside tables are standard in high-end hotel interiors. They give the bedroom a sleek, well-maintained look reminiscent of a design hotel. Combine with floating wall shelves and hidden lighting for a complete hotel-inspired bedroom.

Materials

Solid Oak

Oak is warm, durable, and timeless. A floating oak bedside table in natural or white oiled finish fits into a Scandinavian or Japandi bedroom. Dark stained oak suits an industrial or dark bedroom interior. Oak is sturdy enough to be made with a built-in drawer.

Solid Walnut

Walnut gives the floating bedside table a richer, more luxurious appearance. Its dark chocolate color and rich grain make each walnut bedside table an object in itself. Perfect if you are aiming for a premium bedroom interior.

Matte Black

A matte black floating bedside table (lacquered wood or black MDF) fits into a modern, moody bedroom. The sleek color provides dramatic contrast against a white wall or light bedding.

Sizes

Floating bedside tables are available in two main sizes at Industrial Home:

  • Narrow (approx. 30 cm wide): ideal for small bedrooms or when there is limited space next to the bed. Fits a glass of water, book, and alarm clock.
  • Wide (approx. 50 cm wide): more surface area for a lamp, books, charging cables, and decoration. The most comfortable size.
  • Custom made: any desired width is possible, also as a set of two for either side of the bed.

With or Without Drawer

A floating bedside table without a drawer is purely decorative — a shelf with a slightly curved or sleek profile. Simple and elegant. A floating bedside table with a drawer offers the practical added value of a hidden storage compartment — perfect for nighttime medications, jewelry, toothbrush tablets, and other "night-time essentials."

The drawer can be equipped with a push-to-open mechanism (no visible handle, sleek!) or with a small metal handle in brass or matte black.

Two Pieces as a Set

The most polished result is achieved by placing two identical floating bedside tables on either side of the bed. Ensure the mounting height is exactly the same (use a spirit level). This gives the bedroom a symmetrical, hotel-like appearance that always looks calm and orderly.

Mounting

Floating bedside tables are wall-mounted with hidden supports or screws. Mounting requires a drill, wall anchors, and a spirit level. For a solid wall, mounting is simple; for plasterboard, special hollow-wall anchors are required. We supply each bedside table with an installation guide and all necessary mounting materials.

Frequently Asked Questions about Floating Bedside Tables

At what height should I mount a floating bedside table?

The ideal height is level with the top of your mattress or 5–10 cm higher. Measure the height from the floor to the top edge of the mattress and hang the cabinet at that height. This way, you can easily reach your glass or book without bending or stretching.

Can a floating bedside table support enough weight?

Yes, if correctly mounted into a solid wall. A properly secured solid wood floating cabinet can easily support 20–30 kg — more than enough for anything you would place on a bedside table. In plasterboard, the maximum is lower but sufficient for normal bedside table use.

Can I order two identical floating bedside tables?

Yes, we supply sets of two identical pieces. Please indicate this when ordering — we ensure they come from the same production batch for a perfect color match.

Is a floating bedside table also suitable for a box spring or raised bed?

For a high bed (box spring with 40–50 cm height + mattress), the desired mounting height is higher than usual. This is not a problem — specify the desired mounting height, and we will adjust the cabinet to your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I mount a floating bedside table?

Using wall-mounting anchors. Solid wall: standard plugs. Plasterboard wall: hollow-wall anchors. Mounted on a rail or direct mounting plate.

Is a floating bedside table strong enough?

Yes — a properly mounted floating bedside table can hold 20-40 kg. More than enough for a lamp, alarm clock, and book.

At what height should I mount it?

Level with the top of your mattress — typically 50-65 cm. Test the height by sitting upright in bed.

Does a floating bedside table also have storage space?

Many models have 1-2 drawers or an open compartment. Soft-close drawers are quieter at night.

Is mounting difficult?

With a good drill guide and spirit level: 30-45 minutes per piece. Measure twice, drill once.

Which material is best?

Light oak for Japandi/Scandinavian. Black for modern/industrial. White or white-lacquered for minimalist.
