A teddy chair is the most huggable piece of furniture you can place in your living room or dining room. The soft, fluffy teddy fabric — also known as bouclé, alpine, or pile fabric — gives the chair a warm, luxurious appearance that is both cozy and stylish. In the world of interior fabrics, teddy is currently one of the most sought-after materials: it combines the softness of cuddly plush with a mature, design-oriented character. At Industrial Home, you can fully customize your teddy chair through the Koopmans collection.

What is Teddy Fabric?

Teddy fabric is a soft pile fabric where the fibers are curled or stand upright — similar to the texture of a teddy bear, hence the name. The variants are numerous:

  • Teddy pile: the classic version with even, slightly curled fibers. Extremely soft and pleasant to the touch.
  • Bouclé: a textured wool or acrylic fabric with a distinctive loop structure. Bouclé has a slightly rougher, more organic look than teddy but is equally soft and luxurious. The Eames Lounge Chair in bouclé is an iconic example.
  • Alpine fabric: a mountain wool-like fabric with a slightly denser pile. More structured than teddy, warm and robust.

What all variants have in common: they feel warm, they are visually richer than flat fabric, and they immediately give a chair a cozy, premium character.

Colors: From Beige to Midnight Blue

Teddy chairs are available in a wide range of colors. Popular colors among our customers include:

  • Beige / Natural: the popular choice. Warm, neutral, fits into any interior. Gives a Japandi or Scandinavian feel.
  • Cognac / Camel: warm brown with an amber tint. Combines beautifully with mango wood or oak furniture.
  • Sage green: a muted, subdued green shade. Modern, trendy, fits with natural and white interiors.
  • Gray (light and dark): neutral and versatile. From light gray (almost white) to anthracite (almost black).
  • Blue (midnight, petrol): rich blue tones that exude luxury and tranquility.
  • Cream / Off-white: lighter than beige, refreshing, modern minimalist.

Koopmans Dining Chairs — Fully Configurable

The teddy chairs at Industrial Home are part of the Koopmans dining chair collection. Koopmans is a Dutch furniture specialist that produces custom-made chairs. With us, you can configure:

  • Fabric type: teddy, bouclé, alpine, velvet, faux leather, real leather and more
  • Color: from hundreds of fabrics in all colors of the palette
  • Leg material: natural oak, stained oak, black metal, walnut
  • Leg shape: straight, angled, hairpin legs, metal frame
  • Seat height: adjustable for extra tall or short users
  • With or without armrests

This level of configuration is rare — most furniture stores offer chair + color. Koopmans offers a chair that is truly yours.

Combinations with the Dining Table

A teddy chair combines best with dining tables in a contrasting style:

  • Beige teddy + oak dining table: warm and harmonious. The popular combination for a Japandi or Scandinavian dining area.
  • Gray teddy + matte black or concrete-look table: modern and well-balanced.
  • Cognac teddy + walnut table: luxurious and rich in color.
  • Green teddy + white ceramic table: fresh, modern, trendy.

Teddy Chair as an Armchair

Teddy fabric is not just for dining chairs. The same fabric and configuration options are available for armchairs — ideal in the living room next to a lamp and side table. A teddy armchair in beige or cognac next to a mango wood side table and a floor lamp is the perfect reading nook.

Maintenance of Teddy Chair Fabric

Teddy and bouclé fabric are relatively easy to maintain:

  • Vacuum the chair regularly with a soft upholstery attachment to remove dust and loose fibers.
  • Dab stains immediately (do not rub) with a dry white cloth.
  • For larger stains: lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, dab gently.
  • Allow to air dry completely — never use direct hot air (hairdryer or radiator).
  • Steam cleaning can refresh the fabric — use a steam cleaner on a low setting.

Frequently Asked Questions about Teddy Chairs

Is teddy fabric suitable for households with pets or children?

Teddy fabric attracts hair, dust, and fibers slightly more easily than smooth fabric or leather. With pets, regular vacuuming is necessary. For families with young children, faux leather or a washable fabric variant might be more practical — but teddy looks so beautiful that many parents still choose it and are simply more careful.

Does teddy fabric pill?

Quality teddy fabric (like the fabric in the Koopmans collection) has a minimal tendency to pill. Cheaper acrylic variants may show this over time. Vacuuming with a soft head and an anti-pilling razor (lint remover) will fix pilling when it occurs.

Can I reorder the teddy chair in another color if the fabric is out of stock?

Yes. Koopmans works with a wide range of fabrics and ensures resupply of the same fabric type and color when available. We recommend ordering multiple chairs at the same time to avoid color differences due to production batch variations.

How long does delivery of a configured Koopmans chair take?

Koopmans produces to order — usually 4–8 weeks. We communicate a concrete delivery time upon order.

Buying advice: choosing the right dining chair

  • Seat height: standard 43-47 cm for a table of 75-78 cm height. Difference between table and chair: minimum 28 cm, ideal 30-32 cm.
  • Seat depth: minimum 40 cm, comfortable 45-48 cm. Knees should hang freely.
  • Backrest: 40-50 cm high for dining chairs — higher is more suitable for living room chairs.
  • Width per chair: minimum 45 cm table length per chair, comfortable 60-70 cm.
  • With armrests: check if the armrests fit under the tabletop (armrest height < table height minus 2 cm).

Tip: when in doubt, go for the larger chair size — a comfortable chair ensures longer and more pleasant meals.

Is a teddy/bouclé dining chair warm in summer?+

Teddy fabric breathes reasonably well - similar to a woven fabric. It is warmer than leather (which feels hot/cold depending on the temperature), but not stuffy. People who like to be comfortable and warm are fans of teddy all year round.

How do I clean a teddy/bouclé chair?+

Dab stains immediately with a damp cloth - do not rub. Use a soft clothes brush to even out the loop structure and remove lint. Avoid aggressive stain removers. Never let a stain dry without treatment.

What colors are available in teddy/bouclé?+

Our most popular teddy colors are natural white/cream, warm gray, sand beige, and cognac. We also have olive green and dark gray in bouclé. Request free swatches to assess the color in your dining room lighting.

What table goes well with a teddy chair?+

Teddy chairs pair best with warm, organic tables: natural oak, walnut, bamboo wood. They also work well with a ceramic tabletop in beige, light gray, or sandstone. The teddy/oak combo is the definition of a Japandi dining room.

Do teddy chairs get dirty quickly?+

The loop structure of teddy/bouclé can hold fibers - think pet hair. A lint roller quickly solves that. Stains: treat immediately. In terms of daily robustness, teddy scores slightly lower than leather or woven fabric - but the look is incomparably warm.

How long does delivery of a teddy chair take?+

4-6 weeks - they are upholstered to order. You will receive a confirmation with the expected delivery date after your order.
