What Makes a Dining Table Robust?

We call a dining table robust when it meets characteristics that distinguish it from the average design table:

  • Thick tabletop: Minimum 4–5 cm solid wood for a full, heavy look
  • Solid material: No veneer — fully solid oak, acacia, mango, or other hardwood
  • Sturdy base: Tube steel, rolled steel, or solid wooden legs of at least 8 × 8 cm
  • Weight: A robust dining table is heavy — that's a sign of quality
  • Finish: Oiled or stained — the wood breathes and ages beautifully

Popular Styles

Industrial Robust

The industrial robust dining table combines a solid wooden top with a steel base. Think of a thick oak top on a cross-frame of black powder-coated steel. Tough, timeless, and extremely popular in open-plan homes.

Live Edge Dining Table

The ultimate expression of robustness: a tabletop with natural, unfinished tree edges. Each tabletop is unique. Available in oak, walnut, and acacia.

Rural Robust

Thick wooden legs, heavy solid top in natural or greyed oak. Timelessly warm — perfect for a kitchen-diner or farmhouse-style interior.

Materials for the Robust Dining Table

  • Oak: Timeless, characteristic grain, warm and durable — the classic choice
  • Acacia: Exotic hardwood with wavy grain and golden-brown hue — even more robust than oak
  • Mango: Tropical hardwood with unique color variations — warm and full of character
  • Steel (base): Rolled or tube steel, black powder-coated or stainless steel — tough and industrial

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a robust and a regular dining table?
A robust dining table is distinguished by fully solid wood, a thick tabletop (4–6 cm), a heavy base, and a breathable finish. Regular dining tables are often lighter in construction, with thinner tops and lighter legs.
Can a robust dining table also be custom-made?
Yes. At Industrial Home, all robust tables are fully customizable via our 3D configurator. Choose exact length, width, wood type, finish, and base. Sizes from 120 to 300+ cm are possible.
How do I maintain a robust wooden dining table?
Daily: dry or slightly damp cloth. Annually: oil or beeswax. For scratches: sand with fine sandpaper and reapply oil. A robust table gets more beautiful the more it is used.
What does a robust dining table cost at Industrial Home?
The price of a robust dining table starts from approx. €1,295 for an oak model. Special wood types or custom bases can increase the price. All prices include VAT and free delivery.
Which wood is the most robust for a dining table?
Acacia and teak are the hardest wood types we use. Oak is slightly softer but more timeless. For the most robust look: thick tops combined with heavy steel bases.
