Solid oak dining tables

Custom Oak Dining Table — Warmth and Character of Solid Wood

An oak dining table is the most popular choice in Dutch dining rooms — and for good reason. Solid oak has a rich, warm color with a characteristic wood grain that only gets more beautiful with age. At Industrial Home, you can order your oak dining table completely custom-made: in your dimensions, with your tabletop shape and base, delivered for free in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Why solid oak for your dining table?

  • Durability: oak is one of the hardest European wood types — resistant to daily use for decades
  • Character: every oak dining table is unique due to its wood grain, knots, and color variations
  • Restorable: solid oak can be sanded and re-treated if damaged
  • Value retention: a solid oak table retains its value and appearance for a lifetime
  • Versatile: oak combines with almost any interior style — Japandi, Scandinavian, industrial, rustic

Finishes for the oak dining table

  • Natural oiled: retains the warm wood color, feels soft and ages beautifully — the most natural choice
  • Matte lacquered: slightly lighter in tone, easier to maintain — protects well against stains
  • Grey oiled: Scandinavian cool look on a warm wood structure
  • Black oiled: dramatically dark, perfect for industrial or Japandi interiors
  • Smoked oak: dark brown to almost black due to smoke treatment — exclusive and unique

Tabletop shapes for the oak dining table

  • Rectangular: the classic oak dining table for elongated dining rooms — maximum seating capacity
  • Oval: soft shape, no sharp corners, ideal for round to medium-sized spaces
  • Round: cozy and egalitarian — everyone sits equally close together
  • Organic: free, pebble-shaped or asymmetrical tabletop for a unique statement

Popular bases for the oak dining table

  • Black steel U-leg: industrial contrast with the warm oak — most chosen combination
  • Tapered wooden legs: Scandinavian and warm — fits perfectly with natural or grey oak
  • X-leg steel: classically elegant, gives the table a solid and decorative base
  • Solid oak base: a completely wooden table from top to bottom — warm, artisanal look

Frequently asked questions about the oak dining table

What is the difference between solid oak and oak veneer?

A solid oak dining table is made entirely of oak wood — through and through. Oak veneer is a thin layer of oak wood on an MDF or chipboard core. Solid is more robust, heavier, and can be sanded again if worn. Veneer is more affordable and more stable with humidity fluctuations. We only offer solid oak.

How do I maintain an oak dining table?

An oiled oak dining table should be treated 1 to 2 times a year with furniture oil. This keeps the wood nourished and protected. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents. A lacquered oak table requires virtually no maintenance — wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Will an oak dining table discolour?

Yes — that is normal and beautiful. Oak becomes warmer and deeper in color over the years due to light exposure. This is the "life" of solid wood and part of its character. Avoid direct prolonged sunlight in one spot to prevent uneven discoloration.

Is an oak dining table suitable for children?

Yes — solid oak is one of the most robust types of wood. Small scratches on an oiled table can be improved with sandpaper and new treatment. Choose a lacquered finish if you want the easiest maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

What are the advantages of an oak table compared to other tables? +
Oak tables have many advantages. Oak is strong, durable, and resistant to daily use. The unique grain patterns and color variations give each table its own character. Oak is also restorable: you can sand away scratches and re-oil it, allowing the table to last for generations.
How do I properly care for my oak table? +
Caring for your oak table is easy. Polish regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh scouring pads. Treat the top once or twice a year with oak oil to nourish the wood. Repair scratches by lightly sanding with 220-grit sandpaper and re-oiling.
