Which Coffee Table to Choose? - Size, Shape and Material
The coffee table is the centrepiece of your seating area. But which coffee table suits your sofa and room? This guide helps you with the right height, size, shape and material.
Which height?
Choose a coffee table that is about as high as the seat of your sofa, or slightly lower. For most sofas that means a height of 35 to 45 cm. This way you can easily pick things up without reaching too far.
Which size and proportions?
Keep the length of the coffee table at about two thirds of the length of your sofa. Leave around 30 to 40 cm free all around so you can walk past comfortably. In a spacious seating area the table can be a bit bolder; in a small room, go compact.
Round, oval or rectangular coffee table?
- Round or oval coffee table - soft, safe without sharp corners and ideal with a corner sofa
- Rectangular coffee table - sleek and practical with a straight sofa
Which material?
A wooden coffee table adds warmth and suits almost any interior, while a coffee table with a black or ceramic top looks sleeker and more modern. Ideally, match the material to your dining table for a calm, cohesive look.
