How tall is a dining table? Standard height and sizing advice
The height of a dining table determines how comfortably you sit. The standard height is 76 to 78 cm - but the right height mainly depends on your chairs.
Standard heights at a glance
| Table type | Height |
|---|---|
| Dining table | 76-78 cm |
| Low (lounge) table | 60-70 cm |
| Kitchen / counter height | 85-95 cm |
| Bar table | 90-110 cm |
The rule of thumb: chair + 30 cm
Comfort comes down to the space between the seat and the underside of the table top: ideally 28 to 32 cm. Standard dining chairs have a seat height of 45-48 cm, which is why 76-78 cm is the golden standard.
Mind the base as well
With thick tops or robust bases, what matters is the legroom under the edge. With armchairs, check whether the armrests fit under the table.
